Friday, December 2nd 2016: Again a “house lecture” at Schurman Advocaten

As part of the empowerment of its employees, Schurman Advocaten organized another “house lecture.” By discussing socially relevant issues, employees learn about new and/or relevant developments to become even more resilient in our complex society.

In this context, Mrs. Renate van Mil was asked to introduce budgeting, to wisely handle money.

Mrs. Van Mil is a budget expert employed by NIBUD ( and provides introductions and lessons, not only in the Netherlands but also in the Caribbean Netherlands.

The employees discussed planning, the basics of budgeting. What do you need per day, per week, per month, per year (insurance!). How do you prioritize your expenses. Mrs. Van Mil made clear how important it is to take time for your book keeping, you need to know how much money is coming in and goes out, you cannot allow any surprises. During the discussion some came up with examples and situations, and they already appeared to be very disciplined with their money. Not surprisingly, it did not apply to everyone.

It was an instructive and interesting meeting, informal despite the serious subject. Mr. Schurman thanked Mrs. Van Mil warmly on behalf of all employees of Schurman Advocaten.
